Messenger Lite has been Shut Down

Facebook Messenger Lite will no longer be available. The slimmer version of Meta’s Messenger is called Messenger Lite.

Since August 21, users of the app are now taken to Facebook Lite or Messenger. They also see the following message, which serves as a warning: “Use Messenger to keep chatting.”

The Google Play Store has currently disabled access to the app for new users. The app will no longer be accessible to current users as of September 18th.

The software, which was released in 2016, was created to use little processing power and storage. Users using devices with lesser capabilities were intended to utilize it. Meta terminated the iOS version of the app in 2020.

The company recently announced that conversations on Messenger will be migrated to a more secure end-to-end encryption platform. By the end of the year, they plan to have this encryption standard implemented.

In actuality, Meta is learning from its WhatsApp staff. The business claims to have mastered the art of sending messages quickly and in mass quantities in an E2EE setting.

They also envisage a chat service that is more dependable, straightforward, and portable. They anticipate that the messaging service will improve in the end, especially for users with poor connectivity.

Meta posted on its website that SMS messages will no longer be available on Messenger once you update your app.

“If you use Messenger as your default SMS messaging app for your Android device, please note you will no longer be able to use Messenger to send and receive SMS messages sent by your cellular network when you update your app after September 28, 2023.”
