Guest Chat Coming to WhatsApp

Imagine being able to message someone on WhatsApp… even if they don’t have WhatsApp. That’s exactly what a new feature in testing could make possible!

Currently in beta, this update will give users more control over how WhatsApp connects with other messaging apps. You’ll be able to turn off the feature if you don’t want it and choose exactly which third-party apps can message you.

The new feature is called “guest chats”. Think of it like inviting a temporary visitor into your WhatsApp conversation – no full account needed. It’s perfect for chatting with friends, family, or colleagues who aren’t on WhatsApp yet.

Here’s how it works:

  • You send an invite link to the person you want to chat with.
  • They click the link, and boom – they’re in a private chat with you on WhatsApp.
  • They don’t need to install the app, but the conversation still happens inside WhatsApp’s secure system.

The best part? It’s still end-to-end encrypted, so your privacy stays protected.

Of course, there will be a few limitations. Guest chats probably won’t support sharing media, voice notes, or video messages, and group chats won’t be an option (at least for now). But for simple text conversations, it could be a game-changer.

So how does it work without the app? It’s likely that guests will use a web-based interface (similar to WhatsApp Web), allowing them to chat securely without installing anything.

If all goes well in testing, this could be one of the most useful updates WhatsApp has rolled out in years – making it easier than ever to connect with anyone, anywhere.
